Good morning, Archway Lincoln families! We hope you are all rested and ready for the start of the new school year this Thursday, August 4th! PSO has been working hard over the last several days to make sure everything is set for a fantastic beginning!
There are MANY updates in this post, so please read all the way through. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or you wish to volunteer, please contact Archway Lincoln PSO.
Welcome Cathy Post, PSO’s New Vice President!
We’re pleased to introduce Cathy Post, who will be serving as PSO’s Vice President for the 2016-17 school year. Here’s a brief introduction from her.
My name is Cathy Post. My husband James and I have lived in Arizona our whole lives and lived in Gilbert the last 7 years. We have one daughter, Layna, who will be attending first grade this year. Before becoming a stay at home mom, I worked as a senior auditor for a CPA firm in Tucson auditing school districts, charter districts, and municipalities. Last year I was often at school volunteering to assist the administration and ESS in the office. I also spent time in the class as a liaison along with several other duties. Being a part of the school in these ways has allowed me to see firsthand the commitment of the parents, teachers, and staff. I am thankful for the wonderful education and environment Archway Lincoln provides and feel I could bring to PSO the dedication I have toward not only my own child, but the community involvement required in supporting all students. I look forward to this school year and being your PSO Vice President.
Welcome, Cathy. We look forward to having you as our Vice President!
New Facebook Group for PSO
Archway Lincoln PSO has created a new closed Facebook group, which you can find here. This group is for all families of Archway Lincoln. Here you can learn about everything going on with Lincoln’s Parent Service Organization (PSO). Please note that all posts must be approved by an admin or moderator.
This group is designed to share information about PSO and its activities. You can also make requests to other parents about missed/forgotten homework.
As with any group, please be respectful. This group is not a place to complain or make negative comments about other parents, staff, teachers, students, PSO leaders/volunteers, or policies of Great Hearts or Archway Lincoln. Welcome-to-Kindergarten Breakfast for all Kinder Parents on Thursday
Volunteers and Food Items Needed for Kinder Breakfast
The first day of school for Kindergartners is an exciting one, for both students and parents. To celebrate their little ones going off to school, PSO is hosting a Kindergarten Breakfast for parents of Kinders.
To make this event a success, we’re looking for a few non-Kinder parents to volunteer their time from 7:45 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. in the MPR to help set up, work, and clean up after the event.
We also need donations, such as fruit, donuts, and paper goods.
Thank you in advance for making this first day for Kinder parents a memorable one!
Lunch Ordering is OPEN, Lunch/Snack Service Starts August 15th
Dishes2U, our lunch service provider, has enabled their online ordering system for the first quarter. In August and September, we’ll be serving the following:
- Mondays: NYPD Pizza alternating each week with Streets of NY, and Angelo’s Italian Ice
- Tuesdays: Rubio’s alternating with Someburros, and Jamba Juice
- Thursdays: Chik-fil-A alternating with Panera Bread, and Angelo’s Italian Ice
- Fridays: Arby’s alternating with Firehouse Subs, and Angelo’s Italian Ice
All meals come with an 8 oz. bottle of water. In addition to ordering lunches online, you can also pre-order snacks for your scholars, including chips, cookies, fruit snacks, and juice or water.
Please note that NO hot lunches will be delivered until Monday, August 15th. We will also NOT have snacks or water/juice available for sale until August 15th. Therefore, you must provide a pack lunch (and snacks/drink) for your child each day until then.
Lastly, if you’re interested in volunteering in the lunchroom, please see below for all the details.
Lunch and Front Office Volunteers
We can always use your help to keep our school and lunch program running smoothly. No experience necessary! Really! It’s a great way to stay in touch with what’s going on in the school (and who doesn’t like seeing their child or grandchild during the day?).
There are two 3 1/2-hour office shifts: 8:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. to 3:20 p.m.
Lunch shifts are only two hours, from 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Note that Archway Lincoln will not start serving lunches or open the Snack Bar until Monday, August 15th.
Please take a look at the sign-ups and volunteer your time if you can.
As always, our school would not run smoothly without the help of our parents.
Remember that only parents with a fingerprint clearance card on file with the school can volunteer in the office, lunchroom, or classroom.
For more information about the next Fingerprinting opportunity or to schedule a time to do it at the Great Hearts main office, please email Great Hearts HR.
Next Family Fun Night Tuesday, August 9th at Chipotle
Back-to-School Ice Skating Event at AZ Ice in Gilbert
Get out your calendars and pencil in Saturday, August 13th from 4-6 p.m. for Archway Lincoln’s Back-to-School Ice Skating event! It will be held at AZ Ice in Gilbert. The cost is $6/pp ages 3+ (compared to $22/pp at open skate!) and that INCLUDES your skate rental! If you have skates already, you pay just $4/pp.
We have the entire ice rink to ourselves for the whole two hours, so dig out your mittens, strap on some ear muffs, and we’ll see you there!
If you have any questions, please email Archway Lincoln PSO.
Library Update and 2016-17 Birthday Book Club
With the help of our newly formed Library Committee, headed by Shannon Lee and Stacy Rendell, we have made some great progress on the library this summer! We’ve purchased 25 bookcases, the Follet library software management system, and a computer to run the software. In addition, PSO has gifted the Library Committee $500 to create a warm, welcoming reading corner.
We have made some changes to Birthday Book Club, as well. The monthly birthday celebration will still be open to all students; however, only students who make a donation (either funds or a new book) will be able to affix the BBC sticker to the inside of a book.
To allow our Library Committee to purchase the best new books possible, we’ve increased the donation amount to $20. In addition, you can now register your child(ren) and pay online. If you wish to donate a new book (or pay via check; no cash please), you can download a paper registration form here: 2016-17 BBC Registration Form
For all the details about our library, sponsorship opportunities, and to register your child for Birthday Book Club this upcoming year, please see our Library page.
